This project was completed in November of 2021. Denver Concrete Inc was hired to tear out the existing small concrete patio and replace with a much larger patio with hot tub pad. The existing concrete patio was definitely past repair and the only real option was replacement.

The home owner wanted to install a much more usable patio which was to include a new hot tub pad. The hot tub pad will be roughly 10′ x 10′ surrounded by the rest of the patio. The hot tub pad is poured with a different slope than the rest of the patio. This is because the hot tubs jets will not function properly if the slope is more than 2.5%.

Design & Plan Process

ABOVE In the photo above, our concrete consultant has outlined the area for the new hot tub pad as well as the new enlarged patio.

Hot tub pads are a little different than regular concrete patios. At Denver Concrete Inc, we pour all hot tub pads and swim spa pads at a thickness of 6″. Additionally our crews install reinforcement bar (typically #4) every 2′ on center. This reinforcement grid is tied together and lifted 3″ so that the reinforcement is placed in the middle of the new hot tub pad / swim spa pad.

Our concrete consultant then presented the different options available for the various different finishes. The homeowner elected to install a traditional concrete patio with a broom finish. The new patio will be non-colored.

The biggest challenge to this particular hot tub is the change in slope from the hot tub pad to the patio. For this the crew had to ramp from one elevation to the other. A riser would have created too much of a tripping hazard. The hot tub pad can easily be seen in the photo below.

Finished Patio

In the gallery and videos below, the crew has completed the finish of the patio and has yet to make cuts in the patio. The crew will be returning the following day to cut release cuts at 45 degrees to the rest of the patio. Click on any image in the gallery below for a larger version of the photo.

Project is still being completed…

Stay tuned for more pictures and updates on this project as it is not complete yet. Once the release cuts have been made, we will post final pictures and video.
